Discussion The mind-boggling work that went into Red Dead 2's incredibly lifelike horses.

Sorry just got another question if that’s alright. I also have a class called Mathematics for computer science. Is that something that’s algebra/trig heavy or is it all new stuff?

In regards to your analysis of the bending I agree with some points and disagree with others but I think that's fine since I guess you can interpret it in different ways, and I can see why you chose to see it that way as well. I never thought about Zukos rage being sourced from the shame he had, that's a great point.

About her being at a low point, ya I can see that she is feeling afraid through out the season from Ep4 onward but I just personally wanted her dealing with things in a real way in a situation where she feels fully powerless. I know this happens in book 2 but was just hoping to see more of it in book 1 as its probably my favourite and well 2 is all the way at the bottom for me.

Your analysis of the romance is very good, great write up there. But just like how you said at the start it is very corny and shallow and I just wished they hadn't spent so much time on it, same for pro bending. At the end of the day it is what it is, but I just wished the creators didn't feel the need to fill up the limited season with those needlessly annoying sub plots.

Anyway appreciate all your responses, its always fun to read/discuss more about this world. I also haven't watched korra since it ended so I might start on a rewatch, maybe I'll gain some new perspective. Cheers.

Aang had to deal with emotions regarding fear and survival in order to learn Earth,

Wasn’t his obstacle the fact that earth bending is inherently different to the way he air bends and goes against his personality? Toph even says there’s no trick, or clever solution but something aang had to do head on. It wasn’t about survival it was about his attitude and if he had the thinking required of an earth bender which is the opposite to his teachings as an air bender. Once he finally stands his ground against the Sabretooth moose toph tells him he has the confidence and attitude of an earth bender and Aang is able to earth bend.

he and Zuko both had to overcome their shame and find new will to bend fire.

For Zuko it wasn’t about shame, I remember it was about finding a new drive and purpose. Instead of relying on rage he had to discover something else to fuel his fire. Aang had to snap out of the notion that firebending is destructive (which is what jeong jeong says iirc) and learns from the dragons that fire is energy and life not just destruction. This allows both of them to fire bend as they both have a drive(inner fire) and the under standing that fire bending is more than just pure destruction and chaos.

Korra had to overcome her grief of losing her powers in order to save someone she loved.

The problem is that this happens so fast that we don’t actually get to see her inner turmoil with this new situation. If Amon took her bending and then we had an episode of her completely depressed and then her accepting her situation and slowly learning to delve into her spiritual side and then finally we see her in a situation in a couple episodes later where Mako is about to also loose his bending, where then Korra airbends, then that would have been better storytelling. My main gripe is that it was all too rushed.

And yes they only had 12 episodes but my original post mentions how they should have cut all the love triangle and pro bending to make room for such episodes that explore Korra without her bending and coming to terms with that. Episodes that allow us to see a broken avatar without bending will force her to grow more spiritually as that’s her only option to move forward. And then when Aang comes in at the end it would still feel like a deus ex machine but it would feel far more earned than what we got. Because we get to actually see Korra hit her low point and struggling and accepting/overcoming it.

When Amon took everything from her, and she still found that she was capable of doing the right thing, fighting on, saving Mako, kicking Amon out of a window, that was the moment that internal conflict went away. At her lowest point, she experienced her greatest change. Big spiritual growth.

But that only happened because she magically unlocked airbending. If she wasn’t able to airbend would she have kept fighting? We don’t know and that’s what I wanted the show to cover in book one. If Amon took her bending away around half way through book 1 it could have paved the way for her to truly show some inner strength and fight on and learn how to airbend because that’s all she would have left. She would have had to accept that she has lost the other elements and learn to tap into her spiritual side and learn to airbend.

This way we see Korra actually struggling with her new reality. She’s no longer the cocky avatar that has mastered 3 elements but someone that’s been beaten down to a low point that slowly build themselves back up and accept the situation. That would have shown real growth in her character and actually shown what it means to learn airbending and gaining spiritual growth.

It would be kind of similar to how Aang struggled to learn earth bending but eventually came over the obstacle in the end.

I feel like that would have made for a far more compelling storyline in Book 1.

For me its because the characters go through much better executed development compared to LOK. And almost all the charters are affected by the war in some way that have a very real effect on their characters.

Aang has to regain his honor and bring balance to the world after disappearing for 100 years, Zuko has to cleanse the sins of his family and the firenation and he also lost his mother, same for katara and sokka. Iroh lost his son and ends up taking the earth kingdom back. The story and characters all just flow better from season to season. ATLA was more character focused as the plot and the main villain was more of a back drop. The story and journey we got to see through those characters were for me, far better and more enjoyable than LOK. I didn't even really like korra for the first 2 books. And yes she went through a PTSD arc but like many things from LOK it wasn't executed as well as it could have been.

Overall ATLA has better written characters, story lines and moments that explore the themes it presents much deeper even if those themes aren't as complex as the ones in LOK. LOK tackled deeper themes/ideas but they don't fully execute them well so it just feels surface level rather something really meaningful .

Discussion I wish we delved more into the actual Air bending training in Book of 1 TLOK.

Oh wow, that directs you to Paul’s Math notes, which is exactly what I’ve been using to self study. I think I will stick to that and take Math 1P20. I think that should be good for me to confidently take Calculus 1 and more.

Thanks for all the hlelp, really appreciate it.

Yes it’s meant for student who don’t have calculus experience or need a refresher.

The problem is I basically don’t have any math experience for years now. So I don’t even remember how to do stuff like factoring polynomials or working with various functions, Trig, logorithms etc.

Does Math 1P20 cover all the basics from high school as well?

COMMENT 5d ago

Thank you that’s very reassuring.

Btw is 1P20 a 1 year class or is it just 1 semester?

1

COMMENT 5d ago

Math 1P20 covers everything from gr9-12 basically to prepare you for calculus 1?

Is that good alone or is there other ones as well that you’d recommend for my situation?

COMMENT 5d ago

Thanks appreciate the response.

COMMENT 5d ago

Sorry, just have a follow up question. Is there a lot of algebra or trig or anything from gr.9-12 that’s in these classes?

2

COMMENT 11d ago

Can range anywhere between $0-$800

Damn. Anyway, thanks for all the info, appreciate it.

COMMENT 11d ago

I see, thanks for the clarification. One more question if that's Alright. Do you happen to know how much for books? Like how much roughly for the full course?

1

COMMENT 11d ago

Is the $570 for books and stuff? Also I am getting some transfer credits so does that mean the tuition will be a bit lower?

Question about Brock Computer Science Co-op Tuition?

I’d argue the monster of the week episodes from x files are the best ones.

I just want to feel like a proper assassin again. Give me a good set of robes, an urban jungle of a city and a good parkour system and I’ll be happy.

I hope whatever AC infinity ends up being I just hope they don’t forget about the AC part this time.

I have a feeling it will be a directors cut of the game. If 6 is coming out in 2025 I am sure they have a lot planned for V. Even if its just laying down a next gen foundation for online.

That makes sense. Thanks.

Ah I see. So I take it taking both 1P02 and 03 in one term would be too much maybe? I prefer the physical class over online but I dont wanna stress myself too much either.

COSC 1p02 is held in fall and again in winter, both are listed on the timetable.

I see the LEC for winter but I dont see the one for fall. I see labs and tutorials but not the lecture. Or is that held online for fall?

r/brocku 19d ago

Academics I don't see, COSC 1P02 - Introduction to Computer Science, listed as Fall only (D2) on this page. Is it an error?
