That's not a horrible compromise, but no compromise will voted on so long as Mitch McConnell is alive and the filibuster remains unchanged

COMMENT 3d ago

Yeah I agree, I wish that the anti body tests were more powerful, so that such a long period of abstinence was unnecessary. Also, straight sex, while less risky statistically, does carry the same risk of false negative, so why risk it there?

1

COMMENT 3d ago

I guess I was wrong, you just have to be abstinent for 3 months, because the antibody tests aren't able to determine recent HIV infections, and gay men are at an increased risk of HIV transmission because anal sex has a higher transmission rate than vaginal sex.

I just mean that the law was born out of the AIDs epidemic of the 80s and is completely archaic. It's built on fear, not science.

COMMENT 3d ago

Yeah, I was donating plasma the other day, and one of the questions on the waiver was asking if I ever had sex with another man. If I answered yes then I would be disqualified. I'm pretty sure it only applies to gay men and not lesbians, which kind of symbolizes how ancient of a law it is. I think it was up for review a few years ago during the Trump administration, and of course they didn't correct it. Obama administration and they loosened the restrictions

COMMENT 3d ago

Too bad it's still illegal in the US

Edit: this is incorrect, you have to remain abstinent for 3 months because the HIV antibody test is unable to detect recent infections, and unprotected anal sex has a higher rate of transmission than unprotected vaginal sex. The permanent deferral in place since the 80s ended in 2015. While it's still a bit unreasonable, it's still not as bad as I originally thought.

Idk, Norway seems to be doing a fairly good job in building up it's infrastructure to prepare for the eventual drop in oil production. In fact, I'm pretty sure the profits from Statoil or whatever it's called now go into the sovereign wealth fund, to be used in case of budgetary emergency (like covid). I think if they were given enough warning, they would be able to transition away from oil and maintain their standard of living. It's conjecture sure, but it's just as much conjecture as the author was engaging in 🤷.

How brainwashed do you have to be where you see "all necessities paid for and plenty of leisure time" and think that's a bad thing?

COMMENT 12d ago

I think he's just mad that he can't be obscenely wealthy while others suffer.

Consequently, Norwegian culture limits aspirations of achievement. Workers come to the office, punch a clock, shuffle papers, and go home. There is no cultural drive to work hard and get promoted. Work is viewed as what you have to do for 30% of your life, not an opportunity to achieve more and do something that actually matters.

And despite this, they have some of highest GDP/capitas on the planet

Yes, Norway is certainly one of the wealthiest countries in the world on the basis of GDP per capita…

I wonder if there is a relationship between not forcing your labor to slave away in order to survive and productivity 🤔

I use it, but I prefer more stuff being part of the base game because that means it's compatible with everything. Most shipsets aren't compatible with the downscale mod (although I think that one is).

Or something similarly utilitarian.

I honestly can't remember what's base game and what's planetary diversity at this point, it's so good.

Mileage may vary at sportsman's warehouse. I had some old fart wearing a "veteran" pin tell me there was a question on the form 4473 that I "better not get wrong." I had no idea what he was talking about, but when I filled out the gender question and hit male (I'm cis) he laughed and said "good choice."

He also tried to talk me out of getting a sig M18 earlier because the "trigger felt like a toy" and handed me a Springfield XD, which felt awful to hold. Sucks for him because I went across the street to fleet farm and bought an M17.

I'm generally pro gun, and believe that as long as you aren't a threat to yourself or others the government shouldn't stop you from doing what you want, but I don't think this topic has much to do with social democracy.

Although I do think the solutions social democracy prescribes to other problems would go a long way to reducing gun violence in the US.

The military has stated that diverse soldiers working as a team are better at problem solving and approach problems differently than homogeneous groups

“Diversity among Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen, and Space professionals enables us to solve problems for success on the battlefield. A military culture of diversity and inclusion is not optional. It is mission essential.” Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, Matthew P. Donovan
