🇫🇮 Megalanka 2023 Finnish parliamentary election

• Upvotes

Today (April 2nd) citizens of 🇫🇮 Finland go to polls to vote in parliamentary elections!

Finnish parliament (Eduskunta/Riksdag) is unicameral and consists of 200 deputies (101 needed for majority), who are elected for a four-year term, in 13 multi-member constituencies, by open list proportional representation, and allocated using d'Hondt method. Read more here. There is no hard electoral threshold.

Turnout in last (2019) elections was 68.7%.

Relevant parties and alliances taking part in the elections are:

Name Leader Position Affiliation 2019 result Recent polling Exit poll Seats (change)
Social Democratic Party (SDP) Sanna Marin (PM) centre-left (social democracy) PES 17.7% 19-21% TBA (40)
National Coalition Party (Kok.) Petteri Orpo centre-right (liberal conservative) EPP 17.0% 20-21% TBA (38)
Finns Party (PS) Rikka Purra right-wing (national conservative) I&D 17.5% 19-20% TBA (39)
Centre Party (Kesk.) Annika Saarikko centre (liberal) Renew 13.8% 10-11% TBA (31)
Green League (Vihr.) Maria_Ohisalo centre-left (green liberal) EGP 11.5% 8-9% TBA (20)
[Left Alliance](Left Alliance (Finland)) (Vas.) Li Andersson left-wing (socialist) GUE/NGL 8.2% 8-9% TBA (16)
Swedish People's Party (SFP) Anna-Maja Henriksson centre (Swedish minority) Renew 4.5% 4-5% TBA (9)
Christian Democrats (KD) Sari Essayah centre-right (social conservative) EPP 3.9% 4% TBA (5)
Movement Now (Liik.) Harry Harkimo centre-right (liberal) - 2.3% 2% TBA (1)
For Ã…land coalition (Ã…land interests) - 0.4% 0-1% TBA (1)

What's definitely interesting, that there is a very tight race for the first place; and that overwhelming majority of leaders above are women.

Current government is made of SDP, Kesk, Vihr and SFP.

🇧🇬 Мегатема Bulgarian snap parliamentary election, take four!

• Upvotes

Today (April 2nd) citizens of 🇧🇬 Bulgaria go to polls to vote in parliamentary elections… again. These are fifth elections in Bulgaria in two years, after another failure in gathering a government majority.

If you are interested, these are links to our previous threads here: March 2021, July 2021, November 2021 and October 2022.

Bulgarian parliament (unicameral Narodno Săbranie) consists of 240 members (121 needed for majority), elected by closed list proportional representation from 31 multi-member constituencies, with 4% electoral threshold, for a 4-year term.

Relevant parties (lists) taking part in the elections are:

Name Leader Position Oct 2022 result Recent polling Exit poll Seats (change)
We Continue the Change+Democratic Bulgaria (PP-DB) K. Petkov, A. Vasilev, H. Ivanov centre (liberal) 26.7% 25-27% TBA (73)
GERB-SDS Boyko Borisov centre-right (conservative) 24.5% 25-26% TBA (67)
DPS Mustafa Karadayi Turkish minority 13.3% 13-14% TBA (36)
Revival) (V) Kostadin Kostadinov) far-right (nationalist, pro-Russia) 9.8% 13-14% TBA (27)
BSP Korneliya Ninova centre-left (post-communist, social conservative) 9.0% 7-9% TBA (25)
Bulgarian Rise (BV) Stefan Yanev right-wing (national conservative, pro-Russia) 4.5% 2-4% TBA (12)
Stand Up.bg+Left! Maya Manolova left (social democracy) 1.0% 3-4% TBA (-)
There Is Such People (ITN) Slavi Trifonov centre-right (social conservative) 3.7% 2-3% TBA (-)

These are mostly the same contenders, as six months ago (except PP and DB united on one list), with rather similar support.

Turnout in last (October 2022) election was mere 39.3%.
