Well, gee. Thanks. I was not aware AIDS deniers were a thing. In hindsight I could've guessed, I guess. But thanks to you I now possess this knowledge and I will enjoy my life a little bit less from this moment on.

u/arandomsadredditor May 17 '21

There are people that believe that the viruses such as AIDS don't exist and that it's your body doing it to you. They believe tgat viruses are in fact a 100-year scam from the medical industry and that any particles discovered are released by your own body as a result of bad lifestyle choices.

u/Tecnoguy1 May 17 '21

..what

30

u/arandomsadredditor May 17 '21

It's a strange world we live in

44

u/SuborbitalQuail May 17 '21

The world is fairly straightforward, it's the human mind that is beyond comprehension.

31

u/Cue_626_go May 17 '21

It's merely an imbalance of bodily humours!

21

u/CaptainAnorach 29d ago

I suggest a course of leeches for that.

14

u/meester13T 29d ago

And do cocaine about it.

u/gonzar09 29d ago

Dont forget to consult your local phrenologist.

Viruses such as HIV, AIDS is what HIV causes

Some people don’t believe HIV exists and others believe something else causes AIDS.

12

u/tripvanwinkle2018 May 17 '21

You can actually have AIDS from more than HIV. Certain cancers are an example. AIDS is a state of existence, defined by a set of medical parameters.

11

u/AGirlFromPhoenix 29d ago

Acquired immunodeficiency can happen in various ways, yes. But AIDS "Acquired Immunodeficiency SYNDROME"," as a name, is pretty much specific to HIV-acquired Immunodeficiency. It is the name that was settled upon after "GRID" (Gay Related Immunodeficiency) was dropped.

11

u/Cue_626_go 29d ago

Conspiracy theorists who think the medical industry is a scam do realize that Big Medicine makes *more* money if you survive, right?

8

u/arandomsadredditor 29d ago

Viruses are a plot to make money by selling people one or two shot vaccines after which time they'll have 90%+ immunity to the disease and so won't need any more medicine. It's a fantastic business model /s

3

u/derp_derpiddy_derp 29d ago

My favorite version of this idiocy is the idea that the word "disease" comes from "dis-ease" as in an unease in your mental state, and that germs/viruses are not real. Saw a bunch of that stuff at the start of Covid...

2

u/ArtMartinezArtist 29d ago

So you’re saying he gave aids to himself by thinking about it too much.

1

u/redander 19d ago

Dude had Aids also. Use to take medication for it

26

u/2horde May 17 '21

I've learned never to underestimate how stupid people can be

20

u/TheNosferatu May 17 '21

I thought I learned that a long time ago. I'm a programmer, it's my job to make software that idiot-users can't fuck up. They keep managing to do so anyway. But then I come to this sub or /r/selfawarewolves and I think the users I deal with are absolute geniuses.

11

u/Mt838373 May 17 '21

I dont know if I would call it stupid as much as it's just denial of their circumstances. Living with HIV is not the death curse it used to be but its something that you unfortunately have to carry with you the rest of your life. For those who treat it responsibly it requires social and personal changes to their lifestyle that can be hard to accept. In the extreme cases you get those who fall into denial and cant admit they have it and use whatever excuses to keep the stigma away from them.

It's similar to the denial we see in the anti-vax crowd and autism.

6

u/CptCrunch83 May 17 '21

Guess he died the way he lived. In denial. Budum-tsss

1

u/2horde 29d ago

Hmm, nah I'd still just call that stupidity.

They're similar in the way they let themselves be willfully ignorant to well documented and widely accepted science. The root cause isn't just stupidity it's stubbornness and a need to feel "special" (main character syndrome) by thinking they know better than the scientists.

If they just didn't get vaccinated because they didn't hear about it, thatd simply be ignorance, but the willfull part of it is what makes them truly stupid.

Basically stupid is as stupid does

20

u/gonzar09 May 17 '21

iirc, there was an entire magazine publication dedicated to AIDS/HIV denial run by deniers, and the publication stopped because all of the people involved with it died from AIDS.

Edit: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continuum_(magazine)

8

u/Cue_626_go May 17 '21

HAhahahahahaha!

Maybe don't get your health advice from magazines, the Facebook of the past?

2

u/beckster 29d ago

I thought I was in r/Jokes for a minute but this is the truth, sadly. Karmic.

5

u/TTRPG_Fiend 29d ago edited 29d ago

Fun fact during the 90s a magazine existed solely disputing the existence of aids.

It had to shut down because everyone died of aids

Continuum Magazine)

4

u/TheNosferatu 29d ago

Thanks. However, I don't think the term "fun fact" means what you think it does. That was not a fun fact to know at all.

3

u/TTRPG_Fiend 29d ago

I mean it’s fun in the fact it was closed due to pure cosmic justice.

3

u/TheNosferatu 29d ago

See, now that is a fun fact

6

u/GeniusOfLove74 29d ago

I was not aware AIDS deniers were a thing.

Oh, honey.

There have been all sorts of conspiracy theories about HIV/AIDS, since it happened. Most focused on the fact that since it hit the gay community first, that it must be "God's judgment". Never mind that plenty of straight people caught it, or that kids who never had sex in their lives died of it.

5

u/TheNosferatu 29d ago

I've heard about it being gods judgement, people claim the same about covid and all. Just hadn't heard it being flat-out denied. At least with covid denyers I can somewhat understand it because it's a recent thing.

3

u/GeniusOfLove74 29d ago

Have you heard about Pozzers and Bug Chasers (ie., people who want to "give" HIV/AIDS [pozzers] or actively seek HIV/AIDS afflicted partners [bug chasers])? This works from the premise that HIV/AIDS is eventual and unavoidable, and therefore they would prefer to actively attempt to give/get it, like 70s parents and the chicken pox.

3

u/TheNosferatu 29d ago

I think I heard something about it long ago, but I was under the impression that it was "just a messed up person", as in, nothing widespread enough to warrent giving it a friggen name... so I guess that counts as a "no". I did hear about the chicken pox thing, though.

3

u/GeniusOfLove74 29d ago

2

u/TheNosferatu 29d ago

... At least there is a tiny bit of truth with the herd immunity, I'm pretty sure that's long been debunked but there was talk about it at least...

The more I learn about these kinds of things, the less happy I become though. It seems for some of the things I was somewhat aware, but the scope is a lot bigger than I ever knew.

2

u/GeniusOfLove74 29d ago

So many people fear dying, they ironically seem to risk death in order to avoid it.

2

u/biffbobfred 28d ago

In the heat of the Team Edward/Team Jacob drama I made a Team Nosferatu TShirt design. If interested, I can see if I can still find it online. Still a cool shirt, just The “Team___” references just skew a bit old.

1

u/TheNosferatu 28d ago

Depends on shipping but that the "team" reference is a bit odd is probably a good thing, don't need people ask me about twillight XD

So yeah, I'm interested :)

2

u/biffbobfred 28d ago

I looked where I made it (cafepress?) and I can’t find it. I used an SVG of nosferatu and some Freeware twilight font. I’ll see if I still have those.

8

u/boundfortrees May 17 '21

there's a guy who got a Nobel Prize in biology who denies that HIV leads to AIDS.
from his book description "An eminent scientist and pioneer in the discovery of retroviruses challenges the widely accepted belief that HIV is the cause of AIDS. Peter H. Duesberg argues that HIV is merely a harmless passenger virus that does not cause AIDS. Sure to spark intense debate, this provocative book offers an original and incisive critique of the rise and fall of HIV."

looking up that book, it lead me to a bunch of covid-19 denialism books that are #1 in their category.

7

u/erublind 29d ago

Duesberg is not a Nobel laureate. He's a quack and a contraction.

2

u/everyonecansuckit 29d ago

mate you can google a persons name and see if they actually won a nobel prize

2

u/bathrobeDFS 26d ago

Look up Thabo Mbeki and what he did to South Africa

24

u/PurSolutions May 17 '21

Well I mean... he was someones son, or uncle or cousin... but really, how many people are going to miss him?

5

u/Biovyn 29d ago

He will not be missed. People like that are just holding us back as a society. They have a right to live just like everyone else but they are idiots nonetheless. I'm out of compassion.

22

u/Dominarion May 17 '21

His sister said he died still ranting against Big Pharma's greed, while his house was filled with thousand of dollars worth of natural and homeopathic products.

He tried a detox purge to fight the new symptoms he had and it quickened the process apparently.

9

u/claudia_grace 29d ago

Big Pharma's greed

I'm sure all those homeopathic products were free or really, really cheap, since they always are. /s

13

u/panzerfan May 17 '21

It's too bad that we will never get a deathbed recording from the man while he denies that his face was being half eaten by nonexistent leopards who were vegan according to his belief.

57

u/StrangeJonny May 17 '21

Syringes I assume, as no one would have raw dogged him.

46

u/Nyx-Eowyn May 17 '21

A musician from Quebec? I'm sure he got laid. My province isn't known for holding out on banging a talented idiot.

33

u/TarquinFimTimLimBim May 17 '21

How about untalented idiots, might need to move to Quebec.

29

u/Nyx-Eowyn May 17 '21

When the plagues over: Go to Montreal. You pretty much have to be a complete asshole, or trying actively to fail, in order to not get laid here. And even if you do, sex workers are available.

As to resettling here: Just be prepared to learn French (though there are jobs oriented to anglophones) and pay more in taxes (but get much more value back for those taxes)

7

u/ulises314 May 17 '21

Something not entirely unlike French, actually.

6

u/dancegoddess1971 May 17 '21

Yeah, I speak French. I do not, however, speak Quebec quoi. I'm not sure if it's the cadence or the drawl but I have real trouble understanding it. Worse than the hick accent of Marseilles.

10

u/NobodyBodyBuddyHolly May 17 '21

I was born a French Canadian in Quebec, spoke Quebecois my whole life, and I can't understand half other quebecois, especially hillbillies. I am that bad with accent

8

u/poorlyengaged May 17 '21

Of all the French accents and dialects in Canada, I find rural Québecois to be the worst. It's akin to vomiting words while your tongue lies around like roadkill.

3

u/gmarsh23 29d ago

Even if you're too much of an asshole to score with a sex worker, there's always the fallback of sitting drunk on the curb stuffing your face with some Schwartz's.

Which I'd argue is even better.

3

u/Nyx-Eowyn 29d ago

I also recommend the spicy chicken sandwich and farfalle pasta salad at Joe's Panini. It's right downstairs from a bunch of different rub-and-tug massage places.

5

u/IhaveHairPiece May 17 '21

How about untalented idiots

Nah, man, there are already many untalented idiots of both genders.

On top of this French is the official language. You may get by with English a bit, but all contracts are in French, starting with your rent (although that is a fixed text).

5

u/Sarcastic_Sociopath May 17 '21

Who said anything about talented?

2

u/Nyx-Eowyn 29d ago

He sold an impressive number of albums without a label. Gotta give the beau cave some credit where it's due.

12

u/screamingintorhevoid May 17 '21

Hope it sucked a lot!

8

u/Nyx-Eowyn May 17 '21

Seems like he got suckered into the cult of homeopathy and "natural remedies"

2

u/screamingintorhevoid May 17 '21

Ahhh, that always works out so well

4

u/TheDeadlySquid May 17 '21

Fuck around and find out.

Is there anything good on Netflix?

Hope he went in absolute terror.

7

u/0110110101100101Also May 17 '21 edited 29d ago

Well that’s sad... on so many levels.

Edited for clarity:

“-Pretty sad he denied everything right in front of him. -Pretty sad he was a public figure and denied things that were deadly and possibly influenced others’ to share his ignorance. -Pretty sad that he was so ignorant that he died.

And being happy about someone’s death is also pretty sad.”

12

u/negativelift May 17 '21

Funnily enough, I completely disagree

4

u/0110110101100101Also May 17 '21

-Pretty sad he denied everything right in front of him. -Pretty sad he was a public figure and denied things that were deadly and possibly influenced others’ to share his ignorance. -Pretty sad that he was so ignorant that he died.

And being happy about someone’s death is also pretty sad.

0

u/negativelift 29d ago

I am going out on a limp and guess he denied everything before it affected him and thereby becoming a posterboy for this sub. I am sry for those friends and family of him that don’t share his moronic and dangerous views and I am not dancing on his grave. But o find it hard to find a single shred of sympathy in me

1

u/0110110101100101Also 29d ago

I totally understand and agree. It’s truly sad he was ignorant to all the facts surrounding him.

And i don’t expect anyone to sympathize with him. But i personally do empathize with the loss others are experiencing because of his ignorance and self denial.

2

u/ThePookums May 17 '21

The only thing that could make this sweeter is if he died of COVAIDS.

1

u/TamK53 May 17 '21

Excellent

1

u/GalacticScholar May 17 '21

A drama in two acts.

1

u/MoosePoots May 17 '21

had to be some sort of fucked up coping mechanism.

Some people lives are just examples of what not to do.

Gene Pool is closed due to AIDS and fail.

1

u/SuicidalTorrent 29d ago

AIDS deniers are a thing? I hope there are no deniers of the existence of microorganisms.

-39

u/AngelFromJerusalem May 17 '21

Covid and aids don't even exist. AIDS is caused by demon possession this guy died to demon possession.

13

u/SubrosaFlorens May 17 '21

If only someone had drilled a hole in his head. I hear that lets the demon out.

6

u/charmingcactus May 17 '21

Really? I heard it lets the ghosts out.

6

u/TheNosferatu May 17 '21

Ghost*, singlular. If there are multiple ghosts a possible better way would be to go see a psychiatrist.

9

u/checkmeonmyspace May 17 '21

Nothing better to do than shitpost every thread you can find about a "fake" virus, huh. Must be fun at parties

-11

u/AngelFromJerusalem May 17 '21

"must be fun at parties" says the one trying to shut down other people for thinking above you.

0

u/Magikarpeles May 17 '21

Maybe he died WITH aids??

/s

0

u/Cue_626_go May 17 '21

Good. At least he can't hurt anyone else now.
