Info and more sources coming soon!

The Golden Order has been broken.

Rise, Tarnished, and be guided by grace to brandish the power of the Elden Ring and become an Elden Lord in the Lands Between.

In the Lands Between ruled by Queen Marika the Eternal, the Elden Ring, the source of the Erdtree, has been shattered.

Marika's offspring, demigods all, claimed the shards of the Elden Ring known as the Great Runes, and the mad taint of their newfound strength triggered a war: The Shattering. A war that meant abandonment by the Greater Will.

And now the guidance of grace will be brought to the Tarnished who were spurned by the grace of gold and exiled from the Lands Between. Ye dead who yet live, your grace long lost, follow the path to the Lands Between beyond the foggy sea to stand before the Elden Ring.

And become the Elden Lord.

1st impressions:

- horses & yakuls? did I see it right?

- big dark souls indeed

- waifu confirmed

- shadow of the colossus feelings in a couple of takes

- is our character The Tarnished then?

- the valkyrie will be a boss apparently

- graphics look good but seem like a minor improvement vs. Sekiro

Graphics are about what I expected. Have to be mindful this was originally announced as an X1/PS4 game with no mention of the current gen, meaning this was primarily developed around last gen consoles.

It bothers me quite a bit that people in some of the Facebook groups I follow are shitting on this saying it looks worse than the Demon's Remake. No shit, DeS remake was solely made for the new console generation lol.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining about graphics. I was not expecting cutting edge stuff and Sekiro graphics already look good enough. In the end what matters most to me is art direction which is From’s forte.

If anything, it gives me the impression the game design won’t be limited or narrowed out of a desire to prioritize graphics

u/nicholastroy Jun 10 '21

i don't care at all about graphics. just art and frame rate, and i'm sure this game is gonna run super well on xsx

u/majds1 Jun 11 '21

I feel like there's a good chance it's 4k60 on next gen.

u/Hyperflip Jun 11 '21

For sure

u/Alvorton Jun 10 '21

Yeah and Demons Souls was a next gen flagship, so it was literally designed to show off the improved power of next gen consoles.

I hate these tech showcases. They show off a bunch of magnificent features they can perform with the tech they have and say, "Nah, what they really want is a bunch of monetized stuff they need to grind for, made in resemblance of an already existing property that is already beloved by many. That is the definition of fun."

u/what_hole Jun 11 '21

Personally it could look like Dark Souls and I wouldn't care. I'm playing Fromsoft for the challenge and exploration. Not to see them push the graphical envelope.

u/Karkava Jun 11 '21

You say that, but you know you want that.

u/what_hole Jun 11 '21

I mean I wouldn't complain...

u/yunghollow69 Jun 11 '21

Thats so unreasonable. Every game looks bad next to the DeS remake.

u/s1rhaddock Jun 10 '21

Demons Souls is also a pre-existing and comparatively basic game. No shit it’s easier to get good graphics when it’s basically your only job outside of making the old code run on the PS5.

u/ThePrism961 Jun 11 '21

They basically had to rebuild the game from scratch more accurately.

Those people don't understand that animation is arguably more important than graphics, and From Software are some of the best in the business with conveying weight and satisfying combat.

u/kinG_naR Jun 11 '21

People complaining about the graphics are small brain peasants. The combat and atmosphere is always top notch.

u/Cerpin-Taxt Jun 10 '21

It's a shame we have to take a step backwards from Demon's but graphical fidelity has never been expected from fromsoft, they always make up for basic shaders in pure maximalist design. Demon's was a surprise for me because I never expected them to make something so visually polished in the first place.

Hopefully in the future they'll consider doing it again but it's not much skin off my nose either way.

u/jautrem Jun 10 '21

Demon's soul remake was not them (they do not possess the demon's soul licence, that's why they dis dark souls in the first place) it's bluepoint studio who made it.

u/Cerpin-Taxt Jun 10 '21

That'll explain why it was that way then. They put in all the time and effort into design and bluepoint put all the time and effort into converting all that design into more modern shading because they didn't have to worry about the former.

u/unknowningeyes Jun 11 '21

Plus they had Sony funding it. Elden ring is not.

u/kimahri27 Jun 11 '21

It looks worse than Dark Souls 3 and that was middling at best on the PS4.
