Official Website Info: https://en.bandainamcoent.eu/elden-ring/elden-ring

Info and more sources coming soon!

The Golden Order has been broken.

Rise, Tarnished, and be guided by grace to brandish the power of the Elden Ring and become an Elden Lord in the Lands Between.

In the Lands Between ruled by Queen Marika the Eternal, the Elden Ring, the source of the Erdtree, has been shattered.

Marika's offspring, demigods all, claimed the shards of the Elden Ring known as the Great Runes, and the mad taint of their newfound strength triggered a war: The Shattering. A war that meant abandonment by the Greater Will.

And now the guidance of grace will be brought to the Tarnished who were spurned by the grace of gold and exiled from the Lands Between. Ye dead who yet live, your grace long lost, follow the path to the Lands Between beyond the foggy sea to stand before the Elden Ring.

And become the Elden Lord.

1st impressions:

- horses & yakuls? did I see it right?

- big dark souls indeed

- waifu confirmed

- shadow of the colossus feelings in a couple of takes

- is our character The Tarnished then?

- the valkyrie will be a boss apparently

- graphics look good but seem like a minor improvement vs. Sekiro

- OOOOHH

Definitely got the Shadow of the Colossus vibes! Lone rider on horse in vast space + gigantic creatures!

9

u/Aristeid3s Jun 10 '21

First thing I said to my friend was "dark souls of the colossus has a release date!" with a link to the trailer.

3

u/Lot_Flow Jun 11 '21

Yea that boss at 2:24 is very similar to Gaius and I love it. And the turtle with the bell? Yea. This looks good. A similar open world to SotC that probably narrows down to the bosses.

1

u/Karkava Jun 11 '21

I doubt that any game can be exactly like Shadow of the Colossus. If anything, it's probably going to be more like Legend of Zelda's open world which is also vast but filled with more enemies.

Graphics are about what I expected. Have to be mindful this was originally announced as an X1/PS4 game with no mention of the current gen, meaning this was primarily developed around last gen consoles.

It bothers me quite a bit that people in some of the Facebook groups I follow are shitting on this saying it looks worse than the Demon's Remake. No shit, DeS remake was solely made for the new console generation lol.

u/m_sartor Jun 10 '21

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining about graphics. I was not expecting cutting edge stuff and Sekiro graphics already look good enough. In the end what matters most to me is art direction which is From’s forte.

8

u/mistahj0517 Jun 11 '21

If anything, it gives me the impression the game design won’t be limited or narrowed out of a desire to prioritize graphics

39

u/nicholastroy Jun 10 '21

i don't care at all about graphics. just art and frame rate, and i'm sure this game is gonna run super well on xsx

2

u/majds1 Jun 11 '21

I feel like there's a good chance it's 4k60 on next gen.

1

u/Hyperflip Jun 11 '21

For sure

15

u/Alvorton Jun 10 '21

Yeah and Demons Souls was a next gen flagship, so it was literally designed to show off the improved power of next gen consoles.

2

u/Karkava Jun 11 '21

I hate these tech showcases. They show off a bunch of magnificent features they can perform with the tech they have and say, "Nah, what they really want is a bunch of monetized stuff they need to grind for, made in resemblance of an already existing property that is already beloved by many. That is the definition of fun."

10

u/what_hole Jun 11 '21

Personally it could look like Dark Souls and I wouldn't care. I'm playing Fromsoft for the challenge and exploration. Not to see them push the graphical envelope.

3

u/Karkava Jun 11 '21

You say that, but you know you want that.

3

u/what_hole Jun 11 '21

I mean I wouldn't complain...

3

u/yunghollow69 Jun 11 '21

Thats so unreasonable. Every game looks bad next to the DeS remake.

6

u/s1rhaddock Jun 10 '21

Demons Souls is also a pre-existing and comparatively basic game. No shit it’s easier to get good graphics when it’s basically your only job outside of making the old code run on the PS5.

0

u/ThePrism961 Jun 11 '21

They basically had to rebuild the game from scratch more accurately.

5

u/8-bit-hero Jun 11 '21

Those people don't understand that animation is arguably more important than graphics, and From Software are some of the best in the business with conveying weight and satisfying combat.

2

u/kinG_naR Jun 11 '21

People complaining about the graphics are small brain peasants. The combat and atmosphere is always top notch.

1

u/Cerpin-Taxt Jun 10 '21

It's a shame we have to take a step backwards from Demon's but graphical fidelity has never been expected from fromsoft, they always make up for basic shaders in pure maximalist design. Demon's was a surprise for me because I never expected them to make something so visually polished in the first place.

Hopefully in the future they'll consider doing it again but it's not much skin off my nose either way.

9

u/jautrem Jun 10 '21

Demon's soul remake was not them (they do not possess the demon's soul licence, that's why they dis dark souls in the first place) it's bluepoint studio who made it.

2

u/Cerpin-Taxt Jun 10 '21

That'll explain why it was that way then. They put in all the time and effort into design and bluepoint put all the time and effort into converting all that design into more modern shading because they didn't have to worry about the former.

1

u/unknowningeyes Jun 11 '21

Plus they had Sony funding it. Elden ring is not.

-2

u/kimahri27 Jun 11 '21

It looks worse than Dark Souls 3 and that was middling at best on the PS4.

160

u/Cid-Zeke Jun 10 '21

Yeah I think the new demon souls is visually better but gameplay wise I don't think they will compare.

44

u/SithCrafter Jun 10 '21

It definitely isn't quite as good looking as Demon's Souls Remake but I've seen some of the high quality screenshots and some of the scenes in Elden Ring come close.

21

u/YouAreUgly_DontReply Jun 11 '21

It obviously wasn't ever going to it started development as a last gen game in 2017 and has to work for last gen.

Demon's souls was made for current gen.

6

u/ButtBoys69 Jun 11 '21

Also the scaling of the game probably prevents it from being as dazzling. It’s a lot easier to beautify a game like demons souls. Open world gets tricky.

9

u/ectorp Jun 11 '21

Yeah, I guess because it’s a cross gen game it doesn’t have the same kinda next gen lighting/atmosphere as the Demon’s Souls remake. But I think it will make up for it in its design, which just looks so beautiful and creative. Here’s hoping it can run at 60 fps on next gen as well.

2

u/Khanstant Jun 11 '21

Yeah will gladly trade some fanciness in graphics to keep a world I can run seamlessly through. During the key parts of the game I'm really only staring at one model and it's attack animations anyway. Sometimes a gorgeous design is seen mostly from the perspective of your character clipping through their giant legs and you circle strafe.

1

u/TryingToBeUnabrasive Jun 11 '21

Would be shocked if it doesn’t run at 100+ fps on the new consoles tbh. Yes it’s open world but that’s more the CPU’s problem than the GPU’s

5

u/KnightRadiant95 Jun 11 '21

I think it's because demon souls is a smaller game that's designed exclusively for one current gen console. Elden Ring is for past gen, current gen, and pc. Had it been current gen and pc only the visuals likely would be closer.

2

u/ButtBoys69 Jun 11 '21

Exactly yeah. Still looks incredible though. Beautiful art direction.

3

u/FrostedPixel47 Jun 11 '21

Yeah I think since ER is developed by FromSoft it'll look more like an improved Sekiro, since DeS Remake was developed by BluePoint using their own engine

27

u/HerroPhish Jun 10 '21

New demon souls was next gen for ps5. I think elden ring will be on ps4

11

u/profezzorn Jun 10 '21

Says ps4/5 xbone/series and pc, so you're right!

8

u/Xello_99 Jun 10 '21

While that is true, from software games were always a bit lackluster in that regard. Even on PS4 there’s more potential that what from software delivered and is going to deliver. Otherwise the game looks dope though.

2

u/m_sartor Jun 11 '21

Yeah sometimes I imagine what a From game could look like if they used the Doom 2016/Eternal engine which look amazing and run at 60fps

-2

u/Xello_99 Jun 11 '21

Or if they get Bluepoint to tell them how to make pretty games xD

3

u/TryingToBeUnabrasive Jun 11 '21

I mean the answer to that is pretty straightforward, you take a game that someone else already spent years making and spend some more years beautifying it.

1

u/Xello_99 Jun 11 '21

Yeah, maybe it’s an unfair comparison you’re right. But still, there are plenty of more graphically refined (non-remake) games. Don’t get me wrong, I love these games to death (currently doing another run of DSR) and graphics is not everything (far from it). I’m just saying, it’s not From Software‘s strong suit

15

u/munaught1 Jun 10 '21

The new demons souls was made specifically for the PS5. This game has to be on all consoles, next gen and last gen.

2

u/yunghollow69 Jun 11 '21

Itll be available on ps4, there was no chance in hell it was going to look as good as ds remake. Which is good. I kinda dont want to upgrade my PC just for a single game...but for elden ring I wouldve had to do it.

3

u/RightHyah Jun 10 '21

Still got 6 months to make it shiney. I'm with you new Demon Souls looks better.

12

u/HolyKnightPrime Jun 10 '21

6 months isn't much, mostly bug fixes. Demon Souls looks better as it was built for next gen. This is a cross gen. Really built to handle for ps4/xbox one.

1

u/sulidos Jun 10 '21

and that's fine by me

1

u/unknowningeyes Jun 11 '21

Yeah because the demon souls was built especially for ps5. This will be on ps4 and Xbox x

-17

u/kangamangusmang Jun 10 '21

knew it was coming but still a big bummer that it won't stack up to demon souls graphics

17

u/BrBronco Jun 10 '21

That was a given.

11

u/nicholastroy Jun 10 '21

cross-gen vs current gen only, and open-world vs linear

2

u/kangamangusmang Jun 10 '21

yep thats why I said I knew it was coming

2

u/GabeDevine Jun 10 '21 edited Jun 10 '21

I haven't played demon's souls yet, just watched stuff, but honestly, I think I would miss the classic from soft look

3

u/scarbboy Jun 10 '21

It looks like FS graphics just better. They have to progress graphically as well, can't have the "classic look" always.

3

u/JFiney Jun 10 '21

I also think we have no reason to think that these are final graphics

-5

u/Serious_Much Jun 10 '21 edited Jun 11 '21

Hoping the trailer was last gen console footage.

New demons souls is beautiful but obviously gameplay limited by it being a strict remake

2

u/lebron236 Jun 10 '21

yeah they showed the worst version to promote the game zuLuL

0

u/Serious_Much Jun 11 '21

Well they've primarily been making the game for PS4 and xbone the last few years. I don't think it would be surprising If that is the version we saw and the current gen version isn't optimised yet.

We are more than 6 months out

2

u/lebron236 Jun 11 '21

yeah sure

23

u/BombBombBombBombBomb Jun 10 '21

We are the tarnished, yes.

Instead of hollow, ashen one or moonscented hunter

12

u/Foervarjegfacer Jun 10 '21

From are really treading new ground, who'd ever have thought they'd make a game about an unending curse?

7

u/arsmolinarc Jun 10 '21

Regarding the visuals: I also didn't see a massive visual overhaul but From's Art Direction has rarely needed the best gfx anyway, and Sekiro is a testament to that. (Bloodborne too!).

But yeah, OOOOOHHH.

1

u/Key-Banana-8242 Jun 10 '21

I’d say I prefer ds over Selkirk art direc often

7

u/DotWinter Jun 10 '21

Honestly it looks a little bit worse than Sekiro but its understandable cause the game is gonna be bigger too.

4

u/Fieldrook1 Jun 10 '21

As long as it runs 60 FPS on next gen, I don’t care if the graphics look worse.

6

u/CortezAlaric Jun 10 '21

I think I saw some stealth too.

+ multiplayer confirmed and variety of weapon / spell is nice to see confirmed.

3

u/DergutealteStein Jun 10 '21

Shadow of the Colossus vibes are the best part of the trailer. The combination of dark souls and sotc is really what i am hoping for in this game

2

u/ekjohnson9 Jun 10 '21

HORSE BUTT?

2

u/Eruptflail Jun 10 '21

I thought I saw a PC jump!

2

u/MisterMacaque Jun 10 '21

I heard a Sekiro finger whistle at the start somewhere

2

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '21

All I want to know is if this game has coop or not.

5

u/m_sartor Jun 10 '21

There is a scene with a couple of what seemed like blue phantoms, so probably co-op.

2

u/Geminel Jun 10 '21

big dark souls indeed

I kind of feel like 'The Lands Between' are going to be some kind of border dimension that tie DS2 to the rest of the series better, and also pull Bloodborne and Sekiro all under one umbrella multiverse.

2

u/Ellefied Jun 11 '21

the valkyrie will be a boss

God of War PTSD

2

u/legendofzelda1993 Jun 11 '21

I had a shadow of the colossus and darksiders 2 feeling. It was how he attacked on horseback or whatever he is riding that made me think of darksiders 2.

I can tell the bosses will be fun as hell to fight. Graphical improvements have significantly plateaued in recently years for many games.

1

u/TheElden Jun 11 '21

End of console generation. There has been little point in making an awesome looking RPG if it can't run on PS4, sadly. Graphics will improve for next gen only games once again.

2

u/Gahault Jun 11 '21
  • is our character The Tarnished then?

A Tarnished I'd say; the subtitles say 褪せ人 asebito, "faded one(s)", like the name of a people or group (nationalities are written as country+人 for instance).

1

u/Newthinker Jun 11 '21

asebito-jin

2

u/deincarnated Jun 11 '21

Agree re SOTC vibes - surprised more didn’t catch that too

2

u/RevArtillery Jun 11 '21

Graphics are for Naughty Dog games. I'm good with what we got. As long as my game isnt chugging

2

u/RoCapBG Jun 11 '21

I don't care about graphics, I hope the game runs well on lower specs/last gen consoles

1

u/PriorMechanic Jun 11 '21

What about bell monster

1

u/m_sartor Jun 11 '21

Yeah SotC vibes too

1

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '21

Did I see the castle thing from ds3?

1

u/Gmknewday1 Jun 11 '21

Needs more Badass Swords

1

u/captrob1516 Jun 11 '21

Definite dark souls vibes. Also.. am I seeing things or were there some shots that looked just like Anor Londo???

-1

u/arshadshabick Jun 11 '21

Graphics looks like ps3
