Who made this fucking bullshit. Mods need to ban this spam.

Reported it as "harmful bots"

Hey /u/GenderNeutralBot

I want to let you know that you are being very obnoxious and everyone is annoyed by your presence.

I am a bot. Downvotes won't remove this comment. If you want more information on gender-neutral language, just know that nobody associates the "corrected" language with sexism.

People who get offended by the pettiest things will only alienate themselves.

So...I feel like they kind of skipped some parts

182

u/Mnementh121 May 17 '21
  1. Sell cars 2. Buy dealership 3. Go to sports

Easy, everyone should do this.

31

u/Low_Fall9560 May 17 '21

I got halfway to #2 when the car business won. Cocaine is a hell of a drug.

18

u/Mnementh121 29d ago

2is easier if you eat your toast plain and make coffee at home.

From the source OP posted below,

Bhatia will become one of the first superfans to be included in a special gallery at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame at Springfield, Massachusetts. When the gallery is set up, it will be the first time fans find a place in the Hall of Fame.

Sounds like they’re selecting some stand out fans from across the league for this gallery and this guy is representing Toronto.

I think Clipper Darrell deserves the C-Webb experience and should be iced out for a few years

Cause he was Clipper Darrell and then lebron comes to LA and hes now Laker Darrell and everybody continued to not give a shit about Darrell and now hes Clipper Darrell

So for being annoying he must sit

u/WLM45Q 29d ago

In every "rich successful man" story there are missing parts. And these parts are either the ones that explain how it actually happened or the ones that show how he did something really wrong to make it happen.

-19

u/BruceSerrano 29d ago edited 29d ago

Yeah, I think the story is bullshit.

After moving to the United States in the early 1970s to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering, he stayed in California for several years working alongside his brother. Bhatia owned and operated a theatre and also ran several restaurants

OK, so he worked in the US for years and was super successful. Gotcha. He moved back to India and then left for Canada in 1984.

He settled in Canada and, upon arrival, looked for engineering work everywhere, applying to hundreds of jobs with no luck.

Hundreds of applications within one year. Amazing.

Months went by until finally,

Hundreds of applications for mechanical engineering in the matter of months. That's amazing. Probably not hyperbole...

Months went by until finally, a Hyundai dealership took a chance on Bhatia and hired him as a car salesman.

Ah yes, the car dealership took a chance at hiring an upperclass gentleman who had run several successful(?) businesses.

In the face of disparaging behaviour from co-workers and customers alike

His coworkers were awful and the customers super racist.

Bhatia was determined to prove that hard work trumps hate and in his first three months sold a record 127 cars.

But somehow the super racist customers also super bought a lot of cars from him.

I think this story is complete bullshit. I think it's just trendy to be a victim. I've trained a lot of sales people in my day, I've never told them to play on people's sympathies, but it's remarkable the sob stories they put together. I wouldn't be surprised if he would throw his story of racism at customers to make them feel like they had to prove they weren't racists by buying cars from him.

6

u/CY_Royal 29d ago

That’s a lot of words just to say “I’m a pessimist with no life”

2

u/TakeTheWorldByStorm 29d ago

If you're implying hundreds of engineering applications is crazy you're clearly not an engineer.

8

u/roboticwife 29d ago

Hey Bruce, where ya from? Probably not "Torana" Ontario where this guy is pretty much a local, if not national, treasure. Appreciate you put so much work in your rebuttal to the story tho! Must have taken you a long time. So many words.

-15

u/BruceSerrano 29d ago edited 29d ago

Well, that's true, car salesmen are extremely honest people. Toronto is known for it's unbelievable racism and at the same time super tolerant. The super racists think this guy is a national hero, makes sense to me.

19

u/chilipeppersamurai 29d ago

How tf do you sell so much you make more than the company you work for?

Save enough for the down payment when the owner decides to retire.

u/toetoucher May 17 '21

And he’s definitely not dead lol this post makes it seem like he’s long gone

38

u/Detriumph May 17 '21

Some say he's still living even to this day.

10

u/Durango4wd 29d ago

That's sikh!

5

u/Confident-Blueberry2 29d ago

I wrote him a letter asking him to buy a Ford dealership so I could buy a new truck from him!

4

u/dabearjew83 29d ago

I believe that's raptors also gave him a ring when they won. He seems like a genuinely nice guy

12

u/RedFishStew May 17 '21

Damn that’s interesting

11

u/machina99 May 17 '21

Someone should make that a subreddit, it would be the perfect place for a post like this

-5

u/RedditorNumber50 Interested May 17 '21

I think someone already made that r/Damnthatsinteresting

3

u/RichGrinchlea 29d ago

He's a local icon! Superfan!

2

u/creesto 29d ago

Now THAT'S fan service

2

u/citiusaltius 29d ago

Singh is king

2

u/Igor_W 29d ago

That's sikh.

2

u/gapeher 29d ago

Sikhs are some of the friendliest people you will meet. They like to party and drink too! They're the cool roudy fun Indians.

2

u/magic_thumb 28d ago

So, rich guy pays enough to get a gallery of himself...

4

u/sweetnuts416 29d ago

I warning you guys, you don’t wanna mess with the Superfan! That’s like saying hockey sucks or Canadians can’t handle their beer! This guy is our Spike Lee or Jack Nicholson except he is famous ONLY for being a Superfan.

-1

u/19961535 29d ago

??? spike lee or jack nicholson? lol what?

5

u/sweetnuts416 29d ago

Spike is to the Nicks what Jack is to Lakers, as Nav is to Raps

-6

u/19961535 29d ago

you make 0 sense what the fuck does an actor, a comic book writer, and a singer have in common with basketball teams and a superfan? get some water bro you sound fried

7

u/jlm326 29d ago

jack = notorious superfan of american sports team

spike = notorious superfan of american sports team

nav = notorious superfan of canadian sports team.

is that simple enough for you? or are you "fried bro"?

4

u/sweetnuts416 29d ago

Never mind

-4

u/Buffalo-Castle May 17 '21

So is the moral of the story that he faced racial discrimination from Canadians and overcame it?

7

u/MrCoolBiscoti 29d ago

Yeah literally

1

u/SMarcher48 29d ago

Didn't know Canada was so racist.

-4

u/achauv1 29d ago

Good for him but not interesting at all

-8

u/Maxbrehh 29d ago

Aaaah I forgot you’re only allowed to sell cars if you sport a turban

-4

u/[deleted] 29d ago

I never knew that was the only job in Canada's biggest city BECAUSE you have a turban. Sheesh, I guess all the sikhs just sell cars or starve.

1

u/emperorsgroove1 29d ago

I work right by one of his dealerships. I’ve never stepped in. But every time I drive by, I think to myself, how did he become the super fan? This post hasn’t helped me understand.

1

u/Cyanomelas 29d ago

I know several Canadian Sihks that came over in the 70s that are very successful. To say the "only job he could get bc of his turban" is kind of BS.

-6

u/[deleted] 29d ago

I never knew that was the only job in Canada's biggest city BECAUSE you have a turban. Sheesh, I guess all the sikhs just sell cars or starve.

1

u/M2704 29d ago

Didn’t you notice all the car dealers wear turbans now?

1

u/[deleted] 29d ago

I don't think they do - he opened the door to opportunities!

1

u/M2704 29d ago

Opportunity would be a great name for a new model Kia.

-15

u/jojoman7 May 17 '21 edited 29d ago

It goes to show how easy it is to get into the Basketball Hall of Fame. This dude doesn't cover the game, doesn't play it, he just spends money.

6

u/blondechinesehair 29d ago

It’s on display In a super fan section of the hall of fame. He has not been inducted into the hall of fame.

7

u/TheSirBeefCake 29d ago

This guy is actually an absolute upstanding citizen. He gives lots and lots back to the youth of his surrounding communities. He sends kids to basketball camp, build new basketball courts for kids all out of his own money. If any fan deserves this, its Nav Bhatia

-11

u/jojoman7 29d ago

If any fan deserves this

Which they don't. He's a "superfan" on account of being rich. I'm sure there are other fans just as passionate about the raptors.

0

u/jlm326 29d ago

how popular is basketball today without the fans?

the athletes dont even have a job without people like this guy.

-5

u/M2704 29d ago

This turban is a removable object, though, right? And: why wouldn’t he get any other job, but selling cars is fine with a turban? Is that because people associate turbans with oil…

I don’t get it.

1

u/Saaheb09 28d ago

The turban is a sacred Piece of clothing. We have to wear it in public to cover out hair, like hijabs do in Islam. It is a symbol of respect towards religion. Source: I am a turban-wearing Sikh.

-8

u/BokeThoseShmoles May 17 '21

What’s with the chin strap?

1

u/Saaheb09 28d ago

It is to keep the beard in place, since Sikhs have very long hair.

0

u/diamontz 29d ago

one of those annoying superfans that sits baseline and thinks they're actually part of the team, always out of their seat trying to distract players, throwing things in the air during free throws. trying to cheerlead the crowd. marginally better than the OKC bodypaint guy.

-21

u/SlothDragon420 May 17 '21

Because of his Turban... so dumb. Indians are mega rich in USA and Canada - given lots of opportunities

1

u/Saaheb09 28d ago

This is the early 70s... Not 2010s

-7

u/Mecmecmecmecmec May 17 '21

How transparent

-1

u/MarsIAm 29d ago

Whoa. That ring!

0

u/somecheesecake 29d ago

Wait how do fans get inducted into the hall of fame...

0

u/theodore_fusilli 29d ago

I can't believe they stole his turban
