My respect for this man just went through the roof

460

u/bosonianstank 4d ago

Me too! the fact that he memorized the whole thing and sings it to his kids is the best!

78

u/aliie_627 Interested 4d ago

And he didn't fall over in a full-on panic attack getting to do that for his kids. I also probably would have taken 20 minutes to get through all that without anxiety crying and stuttering.

So much respect for people who can do that stuff on the spot. My mom was like that could have a full-blown conversation with anyone and not think twice about it.

8

u/Pirate_Redbeard Interested 4d ago

I recently needed to learn to do that the hardest way. Force myself to overcome myself when every cell in my body screams i just wanna die right there. And it wasn't for a wholesome reason like in the post, either. Myself, and other parents of course, do it so the kids don't have to carry that kind of hole around just yet. I know you can't protect them forever, but I just got to buy them as much time as possible at any cost. At least while they're so young.

Where was it before this vid? Dwayne Johnson has done so much the past decade, heck, even within the pst few years. He is an impressive lad.

54

u/ScrewyScottyArt 4d ago

It's okay to learn new things and formulate or change opinions. Don't be condescending. It's rude.

19

u/FROCKHARD 4d ago

I wasn’t being condescending at all. I was genuinely asking and gave a short comment on how he has been doing a lot! No need to read into something that isn’t there to begin with.

How about we actually pick candidates with experience instead of entertainers? That would be nice.

14

u/spiritual_wonderer 4d ago

Pick someone with experience, if only that's the way it actually worked.

He better fucking not be

37

u/MidnightRaven24 4d ago

Yeah we really need to learn from the last couple times we elected one. Let's get someone in office who, and this may be a radical idea, know how to do their job?

6

u/TheMacMan 4d ago

As a Minnesota, we'd be happy to tell ya how well it worked out when they elected a pro wrestler as Governor. As folks living in the US, we all know how well electing a reality TV personality worked out.

The Rock is great. But he has no political experience. And while some may say that those without the experience may be a good thing to try, we've tried that. It hasn't worked well in numerous cases. You wouldn't hire a doctor, dentist, or any other professional that has no real experience in those specific fields. Why would we think it's a good idea in politics?

3

u/thelastspike 4d ago

Schwarzenegger was a pretty decent governor for California. He was clearly better at governing than either of the experienced politicians before or after him. Of course he can’t be President, but I wouldn’t rule out entertainers or inexperienced politicians in general.

25

I never realized Barkley was that big.

27

u/dsjunior1388 4d ago

Ironic because for a Power Forward he's quite small.

6'6" is quite short at that position.

24

u/cranberry94 4d ago

He’s not even 6’6” - that was his listed height, but in his book he says he’s closer to 6’4”.

The Rock says he’s 6’4” - so unless he’s fudging, there’s likely some perspective issues at play in this pic

23

u/EggianoScumaldo 4d ago

Considering he’s a former Pro Wrestler... im gonna err on the side of him exaggerating his height a taaaad bit.

16

u/anth_810 4d ago

The Miami Hurricanes listed him at 6’5” during his playing days

3

u/phil1pJFry 4d ago

People like Dwayne Johnson and Shaq make me realize that ancient stories of giants are actually completely plausible. If you were a 5'8" tall Greek dude and met Shaq you'd report that you met giants as well.

7

u/keto_at_work 4d ago

Yep. Feel like that's true of a lot of common, explainable occurrences now that 10,000 years ago would just blow your mind. Eclipses, floods, thunder and lightning, tornadoes, earthquakes... it makes sense that religion was born out of a desire to explain those phenomenon. I can easily imagine the line of thought: Oh shit, someone is mad at me/us/someone because I'm/we're/they're doing x.

10

u/edwardsamson 4d ago

One time I was at a Celtics playoff game and I saw the Rock sitting maybe 50-100 feet away from me. At the end of the game I focused on him and tried to leave from my seat and time it so I'd cross paths with him before he got into the tunnel (he used the player entrance/exit). I ended up directly behind him, he was like 1-2 feet away from me and all I wanted to do was tap him on the shoulder and say hi.....but dude....his back WAS HUGE. It was so utterly massive I was too scared and just kinda followed him and I got halfway down the tunnel before a security guard stopped me and I was like "oh shit right I can't go in here" lol I just kinda ended up in a haze because his size was so intimidating...even knowing how good of a dude he is!

And for reference I am 5'9'' 130lbs so I am tiny in comparison lol

7

u/idma 4d ago

I'm not an American either, but if I was, as much as I love Dwayne Johnson, I would not vote for him, The president of the United States is pretty much the most important job in the entire world. Americans need to remember that. People like Dwayne Johnson and Donald Trump are not politicians, they may know about politics but that is not enough.

9

u/Nerd-Hoovy 4d ago

Well, there is precedent for an actor doing Hugh level government stuff well.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is often considered one of the best governors that California had.

Then again, Ragen was a thing.

The Rock is pure class, warning the kids he may look a little different to what they’re use to and then subtly showing his chest tattoo at the end. Pure class.

315

u/Dirish 4d ago

He probably did that because his own daughter doesn't believe he's Maui no matter how many times he sings that song perfectly for her. It's quite adorable.

u/JusticeIsBlind 4d ago

His insta posts with his daughter are the best things ever.

24

38

I think a big part of what makes him so relatable and likeable is that fame seems to still be a novelty to him despite the fact that he's instantly recognizable to the vast majority of the population by now.

Lin Manuel Miranda (Hamilton), and Mark Mancina (lion king the musical). It’s an amazing track.

15

u/MyMumsSpaghetti 4d ago

Better than frozen soundtrack. @me

38

u/Lovin_Brown 4d ago

This isn't even a hot take. Just a fact.

32

u/RequiemAA 4d ago

Frozen has a banger, Moana is the banger from start to finish.

6

u/MildlyExtraneous 4d ago

Can you please tell my girlfriend that? Been trying to convince her for a while...

7

u/RequiemAA 4d ago

Look. I laugh at all of Olaf's jokes and I get real sad when Anna and Elsa have a falling out as kids. I get mad when Hans shows his stupid face and furious when he betrays Anna. And you're damn right that I stand up and give Idina Menzel a run for her money belting out Let It Go!

But Moana? I've only watched it like 3 times in my life and I know almost every line of the movie. I can sing every song. Every moment is a banger.

While both movies are pretty good Disney fare, and while as an adult I truly appreciate Olaf's humor in what is strictly a kids movie... Moana just can't be beat. At least, not by Frozen. I'm waiting to give Rya a chance.
