I only use Edge.

17k

u/BB1CC May 04 '21

That's nothing, I set IE as my default browser.

7k

u/Boss_Boggs May 04 '21

DISQUALIFIED.

Have you not been on the internet?

New Microsoft is bullying early Microsoft out of the market. Live life on the edge.

Life.

Is.

Edge.

He's using IE. The news about that will be released in a couple of years

766

u/KrapfenAddicted May 04 '21

He's actually lying to us because he couldn't be here commenting

481

u/8-36 May 04 '21

Sometimes time warps around IE and this happens.

11

u/GhengopelALPHA May 04 '21

He was actually trying to reply to a comment from 4 and a half years ago. Sucks for him because when it reloads he'll only see the mistake when it's too late.

12

u/snare123 May 04 '21

I blame covid

11

u/beardingmesoftly May 04 '21

Thanks, Obama

DINKLEBERG

u/its-over-VMMMM May 04 '21

They're actually from our future, about 20 years

3

u/TheTeaSpoon May 04 '21

Actually 17 years. After 2037 everyone agreed to set their calendars back to 1998 to get 40 extra years to solve the 2038 problem and as such everyone is only allowed to only use windows 98 since XP, 7 or 10 were not released yet.

So hold onto those AOL CDs. The market for them will be huge. They will outperform even Bitcoin (which ceases to exist and never picks up due to everyone thinking it will so everyone hoards it and nobody spends 10k of it on pizza) in price as a commodity.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_2038_problem

1

u/the9th_invincible May 04 '21

Dark...33 actually

6

u/Gumbyizzle May 04 '21

To be fair, they just said they set IE as their default. That doesn’t mean they actually use it. Maybe they open chrome or FF or something to do everything and just have a frustrating minute of copy/pasting urls every time they want to open something from an embedded link in another program.

3

u/PartyTimeGoat May 04 '21

He's stuck trying to get off the MSN screen

1

u/ankanamoon May 04 '21

Technically could be using the reddit app

1

u/Human-Government3081 May 04 '21

He’s a scientist now

1

u/Shraze42 May 04 '21

Maybe we all are using IEs

2

u/remixclashes May 04 '21

It's was actually the breaking point for Melinda.

1

u/rucksacksepp May 04 '21

Page is probably still loading

1

u/ArmSawIn May 04 '21

He’s just only getting to the beginning of the Second World War! Quick no one tell him what else he’s missing and the horrors ahead!

1

u/dandyboiyt May 04 '21

I see what you did there

1

u/Evi1_Panda81 May 04 '21

He’s actually using a room full of MIT grads, doctors, philosophers, professors, and a plethora of librarians held up in an undisclosed facility that looks up answers to his questions using encyclopedia britannicas. He uses a vintage corded rotary phone to contact them and forms all questions as answers.

118

u/Buddy-Matt May 04 '21

Arguably New Microsoft isn't Bill Gates tho

3

u/MechanicalTurkish May 04 '21

It's Nü Mîcroşõft now

u/I_Totally_Exist May 04 '21

Opera for life

176

u/JonPC2020 May 04 '21

Used to feel that way, but they keep forcing ads onto my speed dial even tho I have it set to not do that. Also, can't seem to stop video auto play any more, nor set pixel ratio like I can in Firefox.

30

u/Expertdeadlygamer May 04 '21

Its only on mobile that way

12

u/Mightyena319 May 04 '21

Opera is like the definition of "how the mighty have fallen". It used to be brilliant. Now, it's just "chromium, but worse" with its ignoring my settings, and inserting a launcher into my tray that starts with windows and doesn't show up in the startup items list

11

u/undeadbydawn May 04 '21

Opera was bought out by shady af Chinese dudes and is now 99% spyware.

Vivaldi is pretty much literally what Opera was supposed to be, but way better

1

u/grindog May 04 '21

Vivaldi refuse to allow you to open new tabs in the background as default

38

u/urixl May 04 '21

Vivaldi ftw!

3

u/JonPC2020 May 04 '21

Tried it, but much prefer Brave. It's kinda funny that I don't wind up using Brave on my pc as much because I save it for when my privacy really matters like when I'm WFH on something.

My default on mobile is Brave. I tried mobile Opera and OMG the ads!!!

3

u/McPoison May 04 '21

for me brave was using 80-100% of my cpu even when idle

7

u/5P4ZZW4D May 04 '21

Brave is bullshat spyware. Google it use duckduckgo to look it up

2

u/iwishihadmorecharact May 04 '21

i just found the article & it doesn’t seem to hold much water… i had heard rumors but it doesn’t seem like there’s much veracity to them.

https://spyware.neocities.org/articles/brave.html

1

u/loco_the_chimp May 04 '21

Brave is the new opera.

1

u/rundgren May 04 '21

Firefox with ublock is better than brave IMO

1

u/WrathOfTheHydra May 04 '21

I loved some of Vivaldi's features, and definitely don't regret the year I used it, but HOLY SHIT IS IT A SYSTEM CHUG.

1

u/urixl May 04 '21

...as any Chromium-based browser :(

32

u/humanoid_dog May 04 '21

AOL chat is now closed

4

u/Tenisyn May 04 '21

*sad modem noises*

27

u/uninterestingly May 04 '21

Haha yes, opera fans actually exist

4

u/uru5z21 May 04 '21

Old people will open up internet explorer or edge . Chrome is for normal browing and so you can't have search history popping up when type an address . Also firefox is another popular brower so that is out of the question . Therefore Opera is perfect for porn and stuff you don't want people you bookmarked.

26

u/Virge23 May 04 '21

Opera is Chinese spyware. Please don't use it.

44

u/puggleofsteel May 04 '21

It's Chinese-owned, at least. The rest of the leap is anyone's to make. But it's not the product it once was. Source: am former Opera employee.

2

u/Ok-Gamer_xX May 04 '21

>its not the product it once was

as in it used to be better? sorry im out of the loop on this

21

u/MissionIgnorance May 04 '21

Opera now has nearly nothing to do with old Opera. The company first swapped out their entire product with a Chrome skin, then sold even that (and the Opera branding) to a Chinese company.

The old Opera core devs now work on a browser called Vivaldi, but sadly this is also a Chrome skin (though a good one). It is simply too much work to start a browser from scratch these days, and since the old Opera core was never open source it is gone. And even if it wasn't it's been a decade since development ended on it so it would be very outdated.

1

u/lordreed May 04 '21

the old Opera core was never open source

Wow I under the illusion that it was.

-8

u/archarax May 04 '21

If it is chinese owned you can be sure that it is spyware.

13

u/bitwaba May 04 '21

I believe this comment is "the rest of the leap" he was referring to.

-8

u/Cr1tycalGD May 04 '21

not realy because opera is part owned by America, plus why do i use it and its safe and secure, if you don't like opera be sure to use brave its very good

5

u/reflUX_cAtalyst May 04 '21

Since when is Opera owned in any part by the US Gov??

1

u/TimmysDrumsticks May 04 '21

You mean you actually got PAID to work on Opera?

10

u/puggleofsteel May 04 '21

Not only that, but I got paid to put Opera browsers on Nintendo products. Good times.

-5

u/MAXRRR May 04 '21

BS don't make false accusations.

2

u/Virge23 May 04 '21

1

u/MAXRRR May 04 '21

Ah, I replied too soon hold on...

-5

u/MAXRRR May 04 '21

Opera is a Norwegian company. So where did you get your info?

7

u/Virge23 May 04 '21

Opera is no longer a Norwegian company. They were bought out by a Chinese firm back in 2016. They have a headquarters in Oslo still but other than that the company is wholly owned by China. If you're looking for the spiritual successor of Opera then Vivaldi is your best bet.

1

u/reflUX_cAtalyst May 04 '21

Not for 5 years they haven't.

-2

u/MAXRRR May 04 '21

It says right on the top of the page "not to be confused with". Anyway, thanks for sharing. Your reply was a tad over the top. But that's my opinion.

8

u/blindfoldedbadgers May 04 '21

Have you clicked on that “not to be confused with”?

Opera Software ASA was founded as a holding company for Opera products and businesses. It changed its name to Otello Corporation after it sold off its web browser and consumer business along with the Opera brand (Opera Software AS) to a Chinese consortium of investors.[6]

Emphasis mine.

5

u/MAXRRR May 04 '21

Damn I'm lagging behind, like... 5 years, behind. Appreciate the update though. Thanks.

1

u/Virge23 May 04 '21

Beat me to it

1

u/I_Totally_Exist May 17 '21

Use a VPN bruh

2

u/GetBusy09876 May 04 '21

Opera sold their kernel. They're just glorified Chrome now. Vivaldi is the company Opera founder Jon Von Tetchner started to compete with his old company. I trust anything that guy does.

1

u/RoXoR95 May 04 '21

Brave browser

1

u/TheCoolestUsername00 May 04 '21

Opera is owned by the Chinese now

1

u/premiumpinkgin May 04 '21

Oh hell yes. It's the simply the best.

1

u/MotivatedsellerCT May 04 '21

Damn forgot all about Opera. Used that on my BlackBerry

1

u/badxvirus May 04 '21

AOL Desktop 7 til the day I die

1

u/ArchdukeAwesomeSauce May 04 '21

Netscape Navigator you pleb

1

u/HolyFruitSalad_98 May 04 '21

I use Firefox as my default and Opera for work, I gotta say the sidebar tempted me a lot, but I just can't support chromium based browsers. They eat up so much oh my memory.

I've tried hard to find a Firefox add-on that can mimic that sidebar but to no avail :(

0

u/redditesting May 04 '21

Drama! Drama! Drama!

15

u/bubliksmaz May 04 '21

New microsoft has nothing to do with Gates though, thats the point

4

u/Lusankya May 04 '21

It hasn't for a long time. At least not on an operations level.

Bill's still got a ton of his net worth wrapped up in MS, but he's been pretty hands-off for over a decade. He mostly let Ballmer run the show after the antitrust case was settled, and I haven't heard of him exerting much influence on Nadella. Hell, he even gave up his board seat last year because it was too much of a distraction from the BMGF.

0

u/Mouthpiecenomnom May 04 '21

False. He retains a ridiculous amount of share value.

2

u/kinyutaka May 04 '21

Living on the Edge

2

u/SolomonBird55 May 04 '21

I’m Edging, Mr. Gates.

2

u/Radulno May 04 '21

Bill Gates is old Microsoft though. He'll be charmed by someone using the classics

2

u/aziouazrayes May 04 '21

SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT! I WANT TO SEE WHAT YOU GOT.

1

u/Lokopopz May 04 '21

Lol anyone who's anyone knows Brave is the best browser.

1

u/Great-Vegetable4802 May 04 '21

I use Brave because it can block ads and pop ups without annoying extensions, but Edge's overall feature set is so much more impressive

1

u/cameltosis25 May 04 '21

If only edge worked properly with sharepoint.

1

u/[deleted] May 04 '21

You joke, but I feel like I can't go ten minutes without windows trying to force me to use edge. It's maddening. I don't want to use your shitty spyware.

1

u/reached86 May 04 '21

Billy is from the old era. He was gone before edge existed

1

u/JoyJoy_ May 04 '21

You know, I'm somewhat of an edgelord myself.

1

u/reeegod May 04 '21

But Bill is old Microsoft

1

u/Rioraku May 04 '21

He did say "higher is better" so yea whatever the newer version is.

1

u/Brenski2219 May 04 '21

Nah nah he's got a point, IE can still do things that Edge can't... Take for example mapping SharePoint drives in file explorer 👌🏻

1

u/Lmao-Ze-Dong May 04 '21

'Edge is 'edge. He j'st chopp'd it off cuz 't blocked meview sowutze mo'nboat?

1

u/megiddo5 May 04 '21

He uses IE... So no, he has not been on the internet.

1

u/Niru2169 May 09 '21

You're on the edge of your life

-1

u/ETsBrother1 May 04 '21

Google chrom is better than his edge-cho fighter

0

u/Eckse May 04 '21

:Have you not been on the internet?

Obviously not. They're using IE as default.

579

u/Nihilikara May 04 '21

Only with Internet Explorer can you learn of this new coronavirus thing that's starting to spread in China.

270

u/HanHeite May 04 '21

Yeah, SARS looks scary

163

u/Nihilikara May 04 '21

I hope they can come up with a polio vaccine soon

18

u/Canonicald May 04 '21

What are vaccines?

16

u/realtintin May 04 '21

Yabba dabba doo!

3

u/Pookieeatworld May 05 '21

Roars in dinosaur

11

u/urbiggestboiifrank69 May 04 '21

Have you heard that there might be a Second World War and the new president of Germany might start it ? Only with internet explorer

8

u/RusticPath2 May 04 '21

Second World War? What do you mean second!?

9

u/urbiggestboiifrank69 May 04 '21

Ah a internet explorer beta user

2

u/Evi1_Panda81 May 04 '21

Who won the 1st one?

3

u/betterthanamaster May 04 '21

There was a 1st one?

3

u/Evi1_Panda81 May 04 '21

Sorry I just assumed there was a first since there’s a second coming.

What was the story on the first one? Was it over the value of $doge?

1

u/dwells1986 May 04 '21

You joke, but Covid-19 actually is SARS.

SARS-CoV-2 to be exact.

1

u/pornAndMusicAccount May 04 '21

Well, officially it is a SARS virus

SARS-CoV-2 or something like that is the official name of the virus that causes COVID-19.

3

u/Mandu_real May 04 '21

Sky news have just done a breaking news report on my YouTube feed.

3

u/odaeyss May 04 '21

Internet Explorer is the ideal browser to use whenever you need to Bing search for "coronavirus big tits".
For research.

3

u/SecretKiller16 May 04 '21

This comment right here officer

1

u/Throwawayaccount2O21 May 04 '21

Should we be worried?

1

u/kudzu_nomad May 04 '21

Bro, just make the swap to netscape. So much better

7

Good luck finding the setting to change your sexual preferences.

7

u/Remarkable_Story9843 May 04 '21

Sex workers/ Adult film actors have clients/fellow actors of their non-preference/orientation all the time. For the $$$, I believe most folks would be up for it

3

u/Derpandbackagain May 04 '21

I’m not really gay, but $120,000,000,000 is $120,000,000,000.

3

u/Tossup434 May 04 '21

For that amount of ho-cash, you damn well better be convincing.

2

u/weakwiththedawn May 04 '21

This is a joke but at my job it's the only browser our filing software works on  ¯_(ツ)_/¯

2

u/spimothyleary May 04 '21

I still use IE for ONE website for work.

Its awful, crashes 3x a week

2

u/patsfan038 May 04 '21

That’s nothing, 100% of my investments are in MSFT stocks. Bill bby, come here

2

u/YuseSale May 04 '21

And only use Bing

2

u/Dontbeajerkdude May 04 '21

Edge is IE. Basically, anyway. It replaced it.

27

u/pilstrom May 04 '21

Sure, just like a car is a horse. Basically, anyway.

The new version of Edge is built on Chromium. There's a world of difference between that and IE.

2

u/Dontbeajerkdude May 04 '21

In the sense that it is THE windows browser.

1

u/labretirementhome May 04 '21

Edge is now Chrome in corporate drag.

"What's new in the Chromium-based Edge?" https://www.browserstack.com/blog/chromium-based-edge/

2

u/need_to_die_idiot May 04 '21

If that were true you would have seen the thread next year.

1

That's nothing, I still use my Zune.

1

u/rnzz May 04 '21

and Bing as my default search engine.

1

u/Bleda412 May 04 '21

Everyone has had IE as their default at some point.

1

u/lmac187 May 04 '21

You’re a sick puppy.

1

u/MidnightTMorn May 04 '21

Please tell me more

1

u/zaidk4373 May 04 '21

I use a microsoft phone.

1

u/Buck_Thorn May 04 '21

Windows 3.1 user here... what is an "IE"?

1

u/maslibros May 04 '21

I have to do this on my work computer, because it's the only one that supports our clocking-in system.

1

u/impulsiveminimalist May 04 '21

On a WINDOWS PHONE!

1

u/V_7_ May 04 '21

So you might not have heard yet that Bill Gates will get divorced.

1

u/poempedoempoex May 04 '21

How did you know to leave this comment 5 years in advance?

1

u/grindog May 04 '21

I.E 6 or go home

1

u/Saneless May 04 '21

I sent poop to everyone involved in the prosecution for their antitrust trials

1

u/Matt_J_Dylan May 04 '21

I SET IE AS MY DAFAULT GIF READER.

1

1

u/Spiderpickl May 04 '21

you think you're something? I use operah 95% of the time

1

u/VectorLightning May 04 '21

Nah. Microsoft legit held a funeral for IE. Complete with burying a hard drive with the source code and a monitor with the logo.

1

u/schmidlidev May 04 '21

Web developers hate him

1

u/FireBug2021 May 04 '21

Oh yea? Im running Internet Explorer CD edition baby!! With AOL mail 😎
